There’s now published data on ambient AI scribing. In a peer‑matched cohort study of Nuance DAX, 99 providers across 12 specialties were enrolled and median utilization was 47% among active users (PMC study). Adoption is only part of the story—the note still has to be clean enough to finish quickly. Providers who achieved higher utilization tended to have workflows that supported quick review and minimal rework—a reminder that the scribe is only as good as the review step.

Documentation time remains a top pain point. In a landmark Annals of Internal Medicine study, physicians spent roughly 2 hours on EHR work for every 1 hour of patient care. A follow‑up found primary care physicians spending 5.9 hours of an 11.4‑hour workday in the EHR, plus 86 minutes after hours (PMC study). That’s the time a scribe tool needs to give back.

DAX Copilot requires Microsoft 365 and targets US health systems. It integrates with Epic and Cerner; Canadian clinics on Accuro, Oscar, PS Suite, or TELUS Health have limited options. Microsoft DAX plus Dragon Medical One runs in the hundreds per provider per month. The CPSO requires patient consent before AI recording; the CMA survey reports ~50% of Canadian physicians with high burnout.
